🗓️ Thursday, July 23
ON TOP by Susanne Bartsch — Le Bain (The Standard, 848 Washington St)
Lady Harley, W. Jeremy, Ryan Burke · 10pm–4am · 94 RA interested
Susanne Bartsch has been running inclusive queer/artsy nights in NYC since the 80s and ON TOP at Le Bain (the rooftop bar/club at The Standard High Line) is one of her ongoing formats — mixed crowd, no velvet rope energy, actual vibe. Lady Harley is a trusted name: NYC selector with dark disco/punk/italo lineage, longtime Gabriela fixture. This is the Thursday pick when you have visitors — it’s a real NYC scene moment, not a tourist experience, and the room has one of the better views in the city. 94 RA interested = you can actually hear each other.
🆗 Also Thursday
- Eli Escobar ROMANCE @ Gabriela — the reliable weekly resident. Classic house and disco, small room, right crowd. Free before 10.
🏆 Friday, July 24
Jubilee — ALL NIGHT LONG @ Gabriela
Jubilee · 9pm · Free before 10, $20 after · ~14 RA interested
Jubilee is a Brooklyn-based selector who bridges dancehall, club, bass, and leftfield electronics — she runs shows in the Magic City (Lot Radio adjacent) world, DJs for Discwoman events, and her sets pull from a wider diaspora than most NYC underground DJs. An all-nighter at Gabriela means she has room to stretch through multiple modes across the night. 14 RA interested = very local crowd, no bridge-and-tunnel, no attitude. The “show visitors the real underground NYC” pick of the weekend. Get there around 10 for free entry.
🆗 Also Friday
- Focus: Acid — Curses (live) + Dreams @ Nowadays — Curses is Berlin-based (NYC roots), Next Wave Acid Punx label, dark disco/motorik/electro. Live set makes this more than a DJ night. Dreams is a solid NYC selector. $10 RSVP, 349 RA interested = focused crowd. If Gabriela feels too small for a group, this is the social alternative with more space.
- Surgeon b2b DJ Pete + Tommy Four Seven + Antenes @ Signal — Surgeon (Blueprint/Birmingham) and DJ Pete (Substance Berlin) are legends but the bill skews hard. Tommy Four Seven = Blueprint, hammer techno territory. Go if you specifically want that sound; skip otherwise. Antenes is interesting (modular hardware).
🏆 Saturday, July 25
🎟️ Nonstop: DVS1 + Sleep D (live) + Clarisa Kimskii + Juana b2b Elle Dee + Aaron J @ Nowadays
DVS1, Sleep D (live), Clarisa Kimskii, Juana b2b Elle Dee, Aaron J · All-night Nonstop format · 1,000+ RA tracking — buy tickets now 🎟️
The event of the weekend. DVS1 is Minneapolis, Transmat/Klockworks — precision minimal techno with real depth rather than just aggression. Sleep D is a Melbourne duo (Central Heating label) doing outsider techno/electro live sets with genuine weirdness — rarer than a standard DJ booking. The supporting cast (Clarisa Kimskii, Juana b2b Elle Dee, Aaron J) is strong across the night. Nonstop format = it goes until morning. Buy tickets immediately — Nowadays Nonstop editions reliably sell out, and 1K+ tracking mid-week is the warning sign.
🆗 Also Saturday
The Juan Maclean ALL NIGHT LONG @ Good Room 10pm–5am · Good Room, 98 Meserole Ave, Brooklyn
The group-accessible Saturday. The Juan Maclean is DFA Records — “I Can’t Sleep,” “The Simple Life,” his recent “The New House” project going deeper into classic house and disco. All-night solo DJ set at Good Room: right-sized venue, excellent sound system, warm room. The kind of night where a group can actually be together all evening. If Nowadays feels like a commitment or sells out, this is the real alternative — not a backup plan, a different kind of great night.
- Lady Harley ALL NIGHT LONG @ Gabriela — trusted selector at S-tier venue. Always worth knowing about if the above fill.
- AKUA + SHYBOI @ Signal — SHYBOI is a trusted NYC name (genre-fluid, queer, reliably interesting). AKUA is Detroit-rooted with Dark Entries-adjacent energy. Good A-tier bill.
- UFO95 (live) + Shaun J. Wright + cotton @ BASEMENT (Knockdown) — Shaun J. Wright (Chicago ballroom / Honey Soundsystem) is genuinely respected; UFO95 does experimental UK live rave hardware. BASEMENT is Knockdown’s intimate sub-room, separate from the main stage. 937 RA interested. Worth knowing about if the queer/eclectic angle is calling you — note the Knockdown address means varied energy throughout the building.
🌞 Daytime / Early-Start Picks
Mister Sunday: Justin Carter All Day Long — Nowadays, Sunday July 26, 3–9pm
Justin Carter · Free entry · No phones on the floor · Outdoor Nowadays patio
Justin Carter is Honey Soundsystem co-founder (San Francisco), one of the most respected American selectors in the international circuit — plays deep, soulful, open-format house/disco/dance, will arc across six hours with intention. Outdoor Nowadays patio, afternoon light going into evening, no phones. The perfect friend-group Sunday. Show up around 4, stay until whenever. There’s nowhere better to be in NYC on a Sunday afternoon.
❌ What to Skip
- Club Stars: DJ Slugo + Eli Escobar @ Paragon — Eli is great, Paragon is wrong room. Skip.
- Avant Gardner / Brooklyn Mirage — as always, hard pass.
- Knockdown Center main stage — whatever’s there, not worth it.
📅 On the Radar — Next 3 Weeks
Buy tickets now if 🎟️ is marked.
Weekend of July 31 – August 1
- Justin Strauss ALL NIGHT LONG @ Gabriela (Fri Jul 31) — Strauss is a genuine NYC legend: 1980s club culture lineage, Mudd Club/The Loft era, still a precise selector. All-night at Gabriela = worth planning around.
- 🎟️ The Bunker NYC Nonstop: Rrose + Lauren Flax + Carlos Souffront + Timnah + others @ Nowadays (Sat Aug 1) — The Bunker is NYC’s longest-running underground techno/experimental party. Lauren Flax (NYC, NAAFI/queer electronic) and Carlos Souffront (Detroit deep house, Magic City) give this unusual range. 359 RA interested but Bunker crowds are serious — get tickets.
- Thu Jul 30 — Gabriela ROMANCE w/ Andi + Body Hack @ Nowadays (thembow, ADAIR, p1nkstar, Latin/queer/dembow, 628 interested) — Nowadays on a Thursday doing something genuinely different.
Weekend of August 8
- 🎟️ Nonstop: DJ Bone + DJ Miss Parker + others @ Nowadays (Sat Aug 8) — Bone is a Detroit icon (Subject Detroit label), plays with real depth and tension. Nowadays Nonstop = get tickets early.
Weekend of August 15
- GROOVY GROOVY Nonstop: Gavsborg + others @ Nowadays (Sat Aug 15) — Gavsborg is half of Equiknoxx (Kingston, Jamaica) — dancehall deconstruction and rhythmic experimentalism, one of the most singular sounds in any genre right now. Watch for this.

My verdict
Thursday: Lady Harley at Le Bain. Best “show visitors something real” night of the week without being obvious about it.
Friday: Jubilee all night at Gabriela. Right room, right format, right artist.
Saturday: Nowadays Nonstop if you get tickets. Juan Maclean all night at Good Room if you want something more sustainable as a group experience. Both are real picks.
Sunday: Mister Sunday. Justin Carter. Nowadays outdoor. 3pm. Don’t overthink it.
