🪩 Dope NYC Dance Parties
A weekly guide to the best dance parties in NYC, compiled every Thursday. Focused on small rooms, local selectors, and parties worth actually going to — filtered hard for one specific person's taste. Top picks get 1–2 tracks added to a Spotify playlist for previewing.
🪩 Dope NYC Dance Parties · August 14, 2026
Gavsborg’s Nonstop takeover at Nowadays Saturday is the ticket you buy right now — but Sunday might actually be the best day of the whole weekend, with Danny Krivit, Love Injection, and Mister Sunday all going simultaneously.
TL;DR
- 🌞 Daytime: Three-way tie Sunday — Danny Krivit in the Ruins, Love Injection at Public Records, and Mister Sunday at Nowadays
- 🗓️ Thursday: ROMANCE w Cherry Pop at Gabriela is the default; Bossa Nova’s PANIC ROOM happy hour is a decent alt
- 🌙 Friday night: Ivan Smagghe & Lauren Flax’s 17-hour Signal marathon vs. Thee Mike B all night at Gabriela
- 🌙 Saturday night: Gavsborg’s GROOVY GROOVY Nonstop at Nowadays 🎟️ — the confirmed buy-now pick
- ☀️ Sunday: Danny Krivit / Love Injection / Mister Sunday, take your pick (or all three)
- 📅 Weekday pick: Quiet — nothing worth rearranging Mon–Wed for
🗓️ Thursday, August 13
ROMANCE w Cherry Pop at Gabriela
Nadine and Rider’s Cherry Pop night gets a ROMANCE slot — sad bangers, emotional pop, and danceable indie-sleaze cuts, a lighter midweek entry point into the Gabriela world. Doors 9pm, free before 10 / $20 after, cash only.
🆗 Other Thursday option
- PANIC ROOM Happy Hour at Bossa Nova Civic Club — Y2AURA, NIJEII, WADDLE, ZIYI, SAINTCLAIR, JESSXO. Free before 11pm / $10 after. Queer club night, low-stakes early option if you’re in Bushwick already.
🏆 Friday, August 14
Night & Day: Ivan Smagghe, Youandewan, Lauren Flax, Patrick Russell, J. Richards at Signal
A genuine 17-hour marathon — 10pm Friday straight through to 1–3pm Saturday. Ivan Smagghe is the co-founder of Kill the DJ and one of the actual “DJ’s DJ” figures — decades deep in post-punk-inflected house, cold wave, and eclectic left-field selecting, a direct hit on the darkwave/new-wave lane Jamie loves. Lauren Flax (CREEP, Miss Modular) brings the cosmic-disco/darker selector balance she brought to The Bunker two weeks ago. No-phones venue, 398-cap.
🆗 Other Friday option
- Thee Mike B // ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela — LA-based multi-genre selector doing a full residency-style set. Reliable Gabriela default if Signal’s marathon format is too much of a commitment. Free before 10 / $20 after, cash only.
- Warm Up: Marcellus Pittman, Moesha 13, Mabe Fratti, Lary 7 at H0L0 — Marcellus Pittman is a member of 3 Chairs alongside Moodymann, Theo Parrish, and Rick Wilhite — real Detroit soulful-house lineage, worth the Ridgewood trip on its own.
🏆 Saturday, August 15
GROOVY GROOVY Nonstop: Akanbi, Baalti, DJ Noir b2b DJ SWISHA, Gavsborg, KATA, Lechuga Zafiro, NVST at Nowadays 🎟️
This is the one we flagged last week — confirmed and still the buy-it-now pick. Gavsborg is the Equiknoxx Music founder, genre-hopping across dancehall, dub, and leftfield club productions; Nonstop editions run overnight into Mister Sunday, so a ticket here doubles as your Sunday afternoon too (re-entry honored). 🎟️ Buy ahead — Nonstops sell out.
🆗 Other Saturday options
- Justin Strauss // ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela — Strauss just did this two weeks ago and he’s back; if you want the reliably great Gabriela version of a Saturday instead of the Nowadays marathon commitment, this is it.
- Mira Invites in The Ruins: Mira, Viken Arman (Live), Vivian Wang — outdoor Ruins night, worth a look if Nonstop is sold out.
- GE-OLOGY, Tom of England, Hiatt dB, Renata Do Valle at Public Records — GE-OLOGY is a respected vinyl-first DJ/producer (Mos Def/Talib Kweli remix pedigree, hip-hop and boogie leaning) — a legit exception to the usual PR skepticism.
🌞 Daytime / Early-Start Picks
718 Sessions: Danny Krivit in The Ruins — Sunday, Aug 16, 3–10pm
Danny Krivit is an NYC institution — decades of 718 Sessions and Body & Soul residencies, disco/house edits under “Mr. K,” a direct hit on the loft-disco lineage Jamie’s into. Outdoor, daytime, no drama.
The Nursery: Love Injection at Public Records — Sunday, Aug 16, 4pm
Barbie Bertisch & Paul Raffaele’s Love Injection party/zine/DJ duo — cosmic disco and soulful house selecting, Lot Radio residents, exactly the sensibility Jamie’s taste profile flags as a positive signal.
Mister Sunday: Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter at Nowadays — Sunday, Aug 16, 3–9pm
The reliable weekly default, residents on the decks, and it’s baked into the Nonstop ticket if you’re already there from Saturday.
Tiki Disco isn’t on this particular Sunday — the Ruins slot instead goes to Danny Krivit.
❌ What to Skip (and why)
- clipping., SPELLLING, Shabazz Palaces — Splendor & Misery Fest at Knockdown Center (Thu Aug 13) — genuinely great artists, but this is a seated/standing indie-experimental concert, not a dance floor. Wrong format even with a “dance-shaped” carve-out.
- Prove It All Night (Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT) at Good Room (Fri) — novelty celebrity DJ set, skip.
- Stuntsz at Good Room (Sat) — no compelling lineup surfaced this week.
- SGNL/Cove Crew debut at Bossa Nova (Fri) — thin lineup info, nothing to vouch for yet.
📅 On the Radar — Next 3 Weeks
Buy tickets now if 🎟️ is marked.
Weekend of August 21–23
- FOREVER DAYS x New York in The Ruins: Rrose, Carrier, Timnah, Sevyn Love (Fri Aug 21 – Sun Aug 23, overnight into daytime) — Rrose’s hypnotic, tactile techno (the Rrose/Seth Horvitz project) avoids the hammer-techno trap; another Ruins marathon in the Bunker Nonstop mold.
- In Trance We Trust: Miss Parker, Pure Immanence, SHYBOI at Bossa Nova Civic Club (Thu Aug 20) — SHYBOI is Discwoman’s Jamaican-born, NYC-based genre-disruptor, a strong trust signal on her own.
- Mister Sunday: DJ Nobu (House Set) and Eamon Harkin (Sun Aug 23) — DJ Nobu is a Japanese house/techno legend (Future Terror); rare to catch him on a house-leaning daylight set.
- SG Lewis (DJ Set) in The Ruins (Fri Aug 21) is already sold out — flagging for resale watchers only.
Weekend of August 28–30
- Jubilee // ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela (Sat Aug 29) 🎟️ — Miami bass, electro, and freestyle from a genuine trust-list touring artist; this is the marquee Gabriela date of the month. Buy ahead.
- Joe Claussell — Ruins debut at Knockdown Center (Sat Aug 29) — Joe Claussell is Ibadan Records’ spiritual/deep-house legend; a genuinely rare booking for the Ruins.
- CHERRY POP w Nadine + Rider at Gabriela (Fri Aug 28) — reliable lighter Friday option.
Weekend of September 4–6
- Shock Value Nonstop: B0YG1RL, DILUVIA, DICAP, Juliana Huxtable, Sewa Choki, Syd Falls, Via App at Nowadays (Sat Sep 5) — Huxtable is an NYC underground fixture (writer/artist/DJ) with real Discwoman-adjacent cred; queer club/bass-leaning lineup.
- Hot Since 82 with Danny Tenaglia, Juliet Mendoza, Kilopatrah Jones at Knockdown Center (Sat Sep 5) — Tenaglia is an NYC house/techno legend worth seeing on principle, but the Hot Since 82 headline slot skews more commercial tech-house than Jamie’s lane; approach with tempered expectations.
🎵 Playlist
⚠️ The Spotify playlist could not be updated this week — the Spotify connection tool returned repeated errors (looks like an expired/broken auth token, not a search-query issue). The persistent playlist is here once reconnected: Dope NYC Dance Parties.
Artists with Spotify presence worth queuing up manually this week: Ivan Smagghe, Lauren Flax, Gavsborg, Rrose, Love Injection, Joe Claussell, Danny Tenaglia. SoundCloud-only or thin-Spotify picks: Marcellus Pittman, GE-OLOGY, Jubilee, Juliana Huxtable, SHYBOI, Danny Krivit (Spotify has archival compilations but no clean primary artist page — his own 718 Sessions playlist is linked above).
My verdict
Thursday: nothing urgent — ROMANCE w Cherry Pop at Gabriela if you’re out. Friday: commit to the Signal marathon (Ivan Smagghe / Lauren Flax) if you can hang, otherwise Thee Mike B at Gabriela is the easy default. Saturday: buy the Gavsborg Nonstop ticket at Nowadays now — it’s the pick of the weekend and doubles as your Sunday. Sunday: if you didn’t do the Nonstop, Danny Krivit in the Ruins is the move; Love Injection at Public Records is the equally strong backup.
