🪩 Dope NYC Dance Parties
A weekly guide to the best dance parties in NYC, compiled every Thursday. Focused on small rooms, local selectors, and parties worth actually going to — filtered hard for one specific person's taste. Top picks get 1–2 tracks added to a Spotify playlist for previewing.
🪩 Dope NYC Dance Parties · August 21, 2026
Tiki Disco is back at the Ruins this Sunday — Eli Escobar and Lloydski, 2–10pm outdoors — but Thursday’s Bossa Nova bill might be the actual best night of the whole run.
TL;DR
- 🌞 Daytime: Tiki Disco returns to The Ruins, Sunday 2–10pm — Jamie’s favorite party, back in its natural habitat
- 🗓️ Thursday: Stacked — SHYBOI at Bossa Nova is the top pick, with Eli Escobar’s ROMANCE at Gabriela and Titonton Duvanté at Good Room right behind
- 🌙 Friday night: Amber Valentine ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela vs. Ash Lauryn’s Night & Day at Signal
- 🌙 Saturday night: Arvin T ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela — Synthicide-adjacent, the safe default
- ☀️ Sunday: Four-way split — Tiki Disco (Ruins), DJ Nobu at Mister Sunday, Gerd Janson at Public Records, or Jubilee x Paurro at Signal
- 📅 Weekday pick: Quiet Mon–Wed after — nothing worth rearranging for
🗓️ Thursday, August 20
In Trance We Trust: Miss Parker, Pure Immanence, SHYBOI at Bossa Nova Civic Club
SHYBOI is Discwoman’s Jamaican-born, NYC-based genre-disruptor — a strong trust signal on her own, and this billing (a “trance” theme night, but the psychedelic-90s-revival kind, not big-room) is right in Jamie’s tolerated-trance lane. Pure Immanence has a Nowadays Nonstop set already in the catalog, so she’s proven on that stage too. 10pm–4am.
🆗 Other Thursday options
- ROMANCE w Eli Escobar at Gabriela — Eli Escobar is the venue’s own founder on the decks for his weekly ROMANCE night: sad bangers, emotional pop, danceable indie-sleaze. Free before 10 / $20 after, cash only.
- Honey Trap & Accessory Records: Titonton Duvanté (live), Rose Kourts, Amelia Holt + more at Good Room — Titonton Duvanté is Chicago house/broken-beat royalty (Neptunian Influence), a genuinely rare live booking for a Thursday.
- program audio H0L0 takeover at H0L0 — Sevyn Love, erika (SF), sfcowboy, and others; H0L0’s low-end is the best in the city if you want something rougher and bass-heavier.
🏆 Friday, August 21
Amber Valentine // ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela
Amber Valentine is a Gabriela regular running a full open-to-close set — reliably disco-and-boogie-leaning, no-frills selector energy, the kind of night that’s good specifically because it isn’t chasing a big name. Free before 10 / $20 after, cash only.
🆗 Other Friday option
- Night & Day: Ash Lauryn, Jadalareign, Jay Duncan, SHEKDASH at Signal — Ash Lauryn is a Detroit-rooted, deep/soulful house selector (Underground & Black, Motor City Wine residency); Signal’s no-phones, 398-cap room suits her set. 10pm–8am marathon format if you want to go long.
🏆 Saturday, August 22
Arvin T // ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela
Arvin T has a Synthicide pedigree (b2b sets with Andi at The Lot Radio under the Synthicide banner) — dark disco/Italo/synth-industrial lineage, exactly the sound Jamie’s taste profile flags as a strong positive signal. Free before 10 / $20 after, cash only.
🆗 Other Saturday option
- Darker Than Wax ft FFAN, Marco Weibel, Xica Soul, Ben Hixon at Good Room — Darker Than Wax is a long-running Singapore-rooted eclectic house/bass collective; worth a look if Gabriela feels like the obvious choice two nights running.
🌞 Daytime / Early-Start Picks
Tiki Disco in The Ruins — Sunday, Aug 23, 2–10pm
Eli Escobar’s outdoor daytime party is back at Knockdown Center’s Ruins with Lloydski alongside him. This is the one Jamie’s taste profile calls out by name as a personal favorite — unpretentious, fun, and exactly the daytime-into-early-evening format that works with a young kid at home.
Mister Sunday: DJ Nobu (House Set) and Eamon Harkin at Nowadays — Sunday, Aug 23, 3–9pm
DJ Nobu (Future Terror, Japan) rarely plays house-leaning sets outside his home turf — this is a genuinely rare booking for the regular Sunday slot. Eamon Harkin co-runs the party and always plays.
The Nursery: Gerd Janson, Ron Like Hell at Public Records — Sunday, Aug 23, 3–9pm
Gerd Janson (Running Back label boss) is a genuine deep-house/disco heavyweight with decades of crate-dug selecting; Ron Like Hell opens. The rare Public Records booking worth crossing the Gabriela/Nowadays gravity well for.
House Of Paurro x Magic City: Marie Davidson, Jubilee x Paurro at Signal — Sunday, Aug 23, 4pm
Marie Davidson’s cold, spoken-word-inflected electro-pop is a left-field addition to a Sunday-afternoon bill; Jubilee sitting in with Paurro is a bonus if you’re chasing her ahead of the Gabriela date next weekend.
Four good options means Sunday is genuinely a pick-your-adventure — Tiki Disco is the one built for bringing people, Mister Sunday and The Nursery are the ones for staying put once you’re there.
❌ What to Skip (and why)
- SG Lewis (DJ Set) in The Ruins (Fri + Sat) — sold out both nights anyway, but also a more commercial dance-pop crossover booking than the Ruins’ usual programming; not a loss.
- BASEMENT: Dustin Zahn / Nastia Reigel / NEUX (Sat) — straight hammer techno, wrong lane entirely.
- Loco Dice, Seth Troxler, Victor Calderone: All Night Long at Pacha (Fri) — big-room, bottle-service energy; skip on principle.
- Honey’s “one last summer dance” event (Sat) — thin lineup details surfaced, nothing to vouch for yet.

Weekend of August 28–30
- Jubilee // ALL NIGHT LONG at Gabriela (Sat Aug 29) 🎟️ — Miami bass, electro, and freestyle from a genuine trust-list touring artist. The marquee Gabriela date of the month; buy ahead.
- Chaos In The CBD presents ‘Dust Till Dawn’ — Joe Claussell Ruins debut at Knockdown Center (Sat Aug 29, 3pm–5am) 🎟️ — Claussell (Ibadan Records, spiritual deep house legend) makes his Ruins debut alongside Floorplan (Robert Hood’s gospel-house project). A genuinely rare booking for the Ruins.
- Night & Day: Eli Escobar, The Carry Nation, Dee Diggs, Arvin T b2b Sissies of Mercy at Signal (Fri Aug 28) — the Gabriela residents taking their sound to the bigger no-phones room for one night.
- CHERRY POP w Nadine + Rider at Gabriela (Fri Aug 28) — the reliable lighter-Friday default if Signal’s a bridge too far.
Weekend of September 4–6
- Shock Value Nonstop: B0YG1RL, DILUVIA, DICAP, Juliana Huxtable, Sewa Choki, TYGAPAW, Via App at Nowadays (Sat Sep 5) — Huxtable is an NYC underground fixture (writer/artist/DJ) with real Discwoman-adjacent cred; queer club/bass-leaning lineup, Nonstop format runs into Sunday.
- Hot Since 82 with Danny Tenaglia, Juliet Mendoza, Kilopatrah Jones at Knockdown Center (Sat Sep 5) — Tenaglia is an NYC house/techno legend worth seeing on principle, but the Hot Since 82 headline slot skews more commercial tech-house than Jamie’s lane. Tempered expectations.
Weekend of September 11–13
- ReSolute presents: MUSCLECARS All Night Long at H0L0 (Sat Sep 12) — Coloring Lessons’ own soulful-house/disco selectors, a trust-list name, doing a full residency-style set at the venue with the city’s best low-end. Top pick of the three weekends out.
- Jyoty & SHYBOI at Signal (Sat Sep 12) — Jyoty (Rinse FM, gqom/global club) teams up with SHYBOI again for a danceable, underground gqom night.
Note: last week’s radar flagged a Rrose/Carrier/Timnah Ruins marathon for verification — that lineup actually already ran (Aug 2, as a Bunker Nonstop at Nowadays, not the Ruins), so it’s dropping off the list rather than showing up here.
🎵 Playlist
⚠️ The Spotify playlist could not be updated this week — the Spotify connection is still returning an auth error (same expired-token issue as last week, not yet reconnected). The persistent playlist is here once reconnected: Dope NYC Dance Parties.
Artists with Spotify presence worth queuing up manually this week: DJ Nobu, Eamon Harkin, Gerd Janson, Titonton Duvanté, Marie Davidson, Joe Claussell, Floorplan. SoundCloud-only or thin-Spotify picks (linked above): Eli Escobar, Lloydski, SHYBOI, Pure Immanence, Amber Valentine, Arvin T, Ash Lauryn, Ron Like Hell, Jubilee, Juliana Huxtable, MUSCLECARS, Jyoty.
My verdict
Thursday: go to Bossa Nova for SHYBOI’s In Trance We Trust — the best single booking of the run. Friday: Amber Valentine at Gabriela is the easy, reliable pick. Saturday: Arvin T at Gabriela, same story. Sunday: if you can only do one thing, make it Tiki Disco at the Ruins — it’s Jamie’s favorite party for a reason, and it’s back exactly where it belongs.
