Spotify MCP
Spotify MCP connects Claude, or any other MCP client, to your Spotify. You ask for a playlist or some new music, and Claude searches, reads your listening history, builds the playlist and plays it.
What I use it for
- Genre crash courses, like Dubstep/140 Crash Course and Bass House Crash Course
- Event samplers from a lineup page, like Neotropolis 2026 Sampler
- New artists in the vein of one I already love
- Digging through my own playlists, like pulling the 2025 releases out of Found 2025 for my end-of-year mix
- Playlist cover art, combined with the Glif MCP
Spotify turned off its recommendations API for new apps in November 2024, so Claude does the recommending, from your top artists, the artists you follow, fan-made playlists and search.
Two versions
- spotify-mcp: Python, runs on your computer. 28 tools, six resources and five prompts.
uvx spotify-mcp-jamiew - spotify-mcp-cloudflare: TypeScript, runs locally or on Cloudflare Workers with OAuth, so it works from claude.ai and the Claude app on your phone. 34 tools and three prompts.
History
Varun Neal Srivastava wrote the original spotify-mcp in November 2024. I added playlist tools in January 2025 and kept going until it became a fork I maintain. The TypeScript version started in July 2026.
