Tave Imagination (c. 1999-2001) was an image manipulation program for BeOS — essentially “Photoshop for BeOS.”

I co-founded Tave with Adrian Ziemkowski and worked as a developer on the application. We were building professional graphics software for an operating system we believed in.
The team
The Tave crew included Adrian Ziemkowski, Shafer Stockton, John Merolo, Ian Loudon, Tim Olson, John Huerta, and Kelsey Womack.
The product
Imagination was a native BeOS image editor designed to take advantage of the platform’s legendary multithreading and media capabilities. BeOS was built for multimedia from the ground up, and we wanted to create tools that let artists and designers harness that power.
What happened
BeOS didn’t make it. Be, Inc. pivoted to “internet appliances,” then sold to Palm in 2001. The platform died, and so did most BeOS software companies including Tave.
Adrian later founded a new company also called Táve — this time a studio management CRM for photographers, which he built and ran for over a decade before selling to ShootProof in 2019. He bought it back in 2022 and it’s now known as VSCO Workspace.
